Decrease Cost of Vacuum Pump Repair - Keep Aging Pumps in Operation Longer
Get renewed service life from used rotors and shafts at a fraction of the cost of new replacement with GasFlo's component remanufacture program.

GasFlo's flame spray experts are skilled in remanufacturing components from Alcatel, Leybold, Edwards, Kinney, Stokes and Busch vacuum pumps.  In our process, a powdered stainless steel and nickel composite is melted and applied to areas on a shaft  worn by seal or bushing contact.

Combustion at the flame spray gun nozzle creates a steady air stream that draws the composite powder from a hopper and through the gun.   As the powder ejects from the gun into the high temperature flame, it melts and gets carried to the rotor surface at high velocity.  The hot material impacts the steel surface of the shaft (see photo to right) where it rapidly cools and forms a hard coating. During the process, the temperature of the rotor itself is kept relatively low to prevent distortion or metallurgical changes.

The first step in the procedure is proper surface preparation to ensure that the sprayed material forms a strong bond with the shaft.  Critical areas such as vane slots are masked off to prevent adhesion of over spray.  After the right amount of material has been applied, the shaft or rotor assembly is allowed to cool.  Once cooled, each treated area is ground to precise dimensions and surface finish to ensure proper performance in the vacuum pump.  Finally, the entire shaft or rotor assembly is deburred and polished.

The new stainless/nickel surface is more resistant to corrosion and abrasion than the original shaft material.  Pump rebuilders have noted how much longer remanufactured rotors perform versus original rotors in corrosive applications.
